My name is Silvia Latimer. I was born and raised in Mexico City where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education. I have a Master’s degree in Bilingual and ESL Education from the University of Colorado at Denver. I was a bilingual teacher in the Denver Public Schools for twelve years. After that, I worked as an instructor at the University of Colorado in Denver in the Literacy, Language and Culture Department. There I taught graduate courses and helped develop the Bilingual/ESL Network. I came to the Boulder Valley School District in 2001 and have been at Columbine since 2007. I was the CABE (Colorado Association of Bilingual Education) and NABE (National Association for Bilingual Education) Teacher of the Year in 1993. I received certification from The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in the fall of 2001. I feel very fortunate to work at Columbine Elementary School and truly enjoy teaching and learning in a multicultural environment. I am married and have two sons who are now 15 and 18 years old. I love reading, dancing and spending time with my friends. Besides visiting our relatives in Minnesota and Mexico, I like to travel with my family to a different city every summer.
