Marilyn feels very fortunate to have combined two passions, art and educating children, in her career. She grew up in Denver, Colorado then completed a degree from Boston University in communications followed by a fine arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts. She worked as an art director and graphic designer in Boulder and Denver for over ten years before owning her own art education business. Marilyn recently completed her master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Colorado. She has worked for BVSD and Family Resource Schools for over 5 years in 8 different schools.
“Art has enriched my life in so many areas; my mission is to pass this experience on to children. As a teacher, my goal is to ignite my students’ interest, curiosity, and enjoyment of art while building their skills, knowledge and confidence. I believe it is a necessity for all children to have the opportunity to develop their creative and critical thinking skills and be able to communicate and express themselves through the modality of art. I also think one of the most powerful benefits of art education is the development and sharing of cross-cultural heritage. The value of social learning cannot be understated and I nurture this development in children. In my classroom, I know my first job is to create a family of learners where everyone feels safe and valued. Then it’s off to have fun making art.”
Marilyn loves to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings in Colorado by spending as much time as possible outdoors with her dog Freddie, husband Galen and two teenagers, Max and Izzy.
