Janet Hoaglund joined the Columbine staff in the summer of 2006. She obtained her endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education in August 2007. Janet believes that Columbine not only educates students well but produces a bi-cultural student, an important characteristic for people living in a rapidly globalizing world. She grew up in Japan and attended public elementary school there. From 1998 to 2004 Janet worked at the Program for Teaching East Asia, a professional development organization at the University of Colorado. Janet coordinated the “It’s Elementary” service project pairing CU students studying Japanese with first grade teachers in BVSD and received grant funding towards this project in 2003. Janet taught at Mapleton Elementary School from 1987 to 1994 and obtained her M.A. in elementary education in 1990. Janet enjoys children’s literature, music, travel, and hiking.
