Dear Columbine Families and Friends,
I hope that you had a restful and fun long weekend!
Yesterday the Columbine staff finished the Boys Town Well Managed Schools training. This program emphasizes relationship building, proactive classroom management practices, and social skills instruction to reduce behaviors that interfere with learning and to empower students with self-management skills. This program will integrate well with our Positive Behavior Systems (PBS) and Mindfulness practices to support our students’ emotional and behavioral development. You can read more about Well Managed Schools by clicking this LINK.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher Conferences are coming up. We would like to see 100% of our parents attend. Since all of our data is not stable due to the many changes happening at the state level, this is a good way to find out how your student is growing over time. Follow this link for some tips for how to communicate with teachers effectively from the National PTA website. I will report back the total percent of parents that attend. Let’s go for 100%!
Please follow this LINK to our Columbine Calendar for upcoming events.

I am reminding everyone in our Learning Community that school ends at 3:00. Please be patient when picking up students. If you pick up your child by car it is best to use the hug and go. If everyone stays patiently in their car, I suggest listening to some great music, and no one blocks the pickup area, we can typically dismiss in as little as 15minutes. Please help us by not cutting to the front of the line and by planning ahead for a quick pick up. The trick is when kids are not out on time. Teachers are also helping by making the necessary arrangements to make our dismissal as swift as possible.
I am requesting that the district designates the north parking lot as a ‘staff only’ parking area. Some folks are using this area as a Hug and Go which makes this area very unsafe for our students. A suggestion is to park on the sidewalk closer to the school north of Columbine Park on Glenwood and then walk to pick up your student at the library patio.
From Mrs. Cohen, Art Teacher
Dear Columbine Community,
Below is a description of a very special and exciting event that many of our students have created artwork for. Please ask your child (2nd and 4th graders only) if they created art about rivers or water for the Denver Art Museum EcoLatinos Festival.
Family Day is Saturday, October 17 and offers fun and free events. The sponsors have generously offered to supply a bus for transportation to Denver if there is a demand. If you would take advantage of this opportunity please respond to this email.
All the best,
