This year in second grade, students in Ms. Pérez-Ruiz’s class studied women that impacted the world during their biography unit as part of the Literacy Curriculum. The students got very enthusiastic about the whole unit, specifically regarding Malala Yousafzai and her activism in providing education for girls. Our second graders got so involved, that they wanted to be part of the change and decided to do a fund raiser.
The Malala Fund
On May 12, 2016, students sent $185 to “The Malala Fund.” Working all over the world, The Malala Fund’s goal is to enable girls to complete 12 years of safe, quality education so that they can achieve their potential and be positive change-makers in their families and communities. Our Columbine second graders all feel very proud and committed to continue working towards this cause.
The Columbine community is proud of the dedication of our students to change the world!
